There are several reasons why, the big one being posterity. The lens of history is sharp, and because of that I'm wary of saying what I actually want to say about this special edition Porsche. If I do, I run the risk of writing something similar to what our former EIC C. Van Tune said about the original Dodge Viper back in 1991: Prepare for acceleration that'd make an F-14 fighter jet seem weak by comparison. For those wondering, the 3250-pound 1992 Viper hit 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, whereas the 4911-pound Mercedes-Benz S550 we just tested takes 4.7 ticks. I mention this because I've come to two conclusions about the 50th Anniversary 911: best-looking Porsche ever, and best 911 ever. It's difficult to overstate how gorgeous the 50th Anniversary model is. Concocted by longtime Porsche designer Tony Hatter, the execution is brilliant. The 50th Anniversary 911 has the wide body from the Carrera 4S yet remains rear-wheel drive. The ride has been dropped GTS-style by 10mm and the combination of the dropped stance and wide hips is mesmerizing.
