With scissor doors that glide upward when opened and blend perfectly when closed, the sporty character of the i8 is immediately recognizable. The i8 is designed to maximize aerodynamics and optimize efficiency. Its body shape is markedly low and forward, which cuts drag during driving. The i8 features a TwinPower Turbo 3-cylinder combustion engine placed in the rear axle which is controlled by a six-speed automatic transmission. As the first BMW production model to be fitted with this type of engine, it boasts 357 hp and up to 420 lb-ft of torque, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds. 4 driving modes can be selected including COMFORT, SPORT, ECO PRO, and eDrive which can run up to 20 miles solely on electric power. When utilizing one of the other modes you can get up to 330 miles in everyday conditions. True to its sports car character, the interior is designed to be driver focused, angling the center console slightly to the left and placing driver-relevant functions around the driver's seat. The navigation system is designed with you in mind. When planning a route the system takes battery level, current traffic, and topographical conditions into consideration, even displaying charging stations along the route. An 11 speaker Harman Kardon Surround Sound System is available as well. The BMW i Remote App, allows you to stay in control of your i8 at any time.
