Based on the same mechanical bits that underpin the Infiniti QX80, the Armada is a large three-row SUV that employs classic body-on-frame construction. For 2021, the Nissan Armada receives a few key updates that Nissan hopes will keep the Armada competitive against the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition. On the outside, a new grille, redesigned bumpers, and reworked headlights and taillights. Inside, there's a restyled center stack that is less monolithic than before. A 12.3-inch touchscreen is perched on top, with a slim but clearly labeled row of climate controls underneath. Overall, we like the updated Armada. How does the Armada drive? The Armada's 5.6-liter V8 engine is stout. At the Edmunds test track, our test Armada sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds, which is a second quicker than a similarly priced Chevrolet Tahoe with the 5.3-liter V8. The Armada also possesses impressive passing power at higher speeds. The Armada newest dash design has a large infotainment screen and new climate controls. There are plenty of standard advanced safety features. They all operated well in our testing. The Armada's styling is attractive, and the interior is about as close as Nissan is going to get to being near-luxury. Serenely quiet and comfy, smooth, potent powertrain, pillowy ride. Fresh styling and updated features help the Armada remain relevant when compared against newer competition. Its modernized mug plus a sprinkling of styling updates help it compete for attention with the redesigned Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon. The Nissan pushes back with more standard driver assists, a larger touchscreen infotainment system, and slightly higher max tow ratings. The Armada's standard V-8 is slightly more powerful than before, and its fully independent suspension continues to provide a supple ride. Every Armada features a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with rotary controls for volume and tuning. The unit sprouts from the top of the center stack and comes with built-in navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, standard Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless smartphone charging. The mid-level SL model adds a 13-speaker Bose audio system, and the top-of-the-line Platinum trim features a rear-seat entertainment system with dual 8.0 screens.
