It certainly gets our recommendation if you're shopping for a family-oriented SUV. Hyundai can reliably be counted upon to change up its style game with each new generation of popular models like the Sonata and Elantra. But the new 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe is a pretty radical departure even by the automaker's own adventurous design tendencies. The new Santa Fe leans into today's car-camping and outdoor overlanding trend with a rugged and boxy new look and a longer, taller body for more interior room, more cargo space, and a standard third row for up to seven-passenger seating. We don't know what Hyundai's design department had for breakfast when they formulated the new boldly boxy look of the 2024 Santa Fe, but we hope there's more of it on that buffet. The new Santa Fe is as wildly different from the old model as granola is from scrambled eggs. The new one gains a third row, with more rear cargo space and legroom. The Santa Fe's recent enlargement is to attract outdoorsy folk, which is why the new SUV is built to accommodate rooftop tents, and why its wide tailgate allows larger adventure gear. The Santa Fe is powered by a turbocharged 277-hp 2.5-liter inline-four with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Covering more than half the dashboard are two 12.3-inch displays, one to serve as a gauge cluster and one as a touchscreen for infotainment. Despite the devotion to screens, physical knobs for things like climate and audio volume have been retained for ease of use. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard features and the Santa Fe even offers a UV-C sterilization compartment in the glovebox for removing germs from smartphones, wallets, and other small items.
